Portugal Vilamoura :6-star hotel to open in 2009

Date: 12/2/2008

Known as the "Palácio da Quinta Resort & Spa", the first 6-star hotel is a Project of National Interest (PIN), represents an investment of 88.63 million euros and has a total construction area of 61,000 square metres.

The luxury apartment hotel located in one of the top ten tourist destinations in the world will offer a sauna, spa and jacuzzi on the terrace between the apartments and exclusive houses.

With a total of 620 beds, the resort will have 160 rooms and 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

According to the promoters, the Portuguese company IMOCOM, this resort will account for 0.22% of gross regional added value and for 0.21% of regional employment, offering 404 direct and indirect jobs.

The Minister of the Economy and Innovation also visited the "Tivoli Victoria" resort in Vilamoura, a 5-star development which should be complete at the end of this year or in early 2009, and whose mission focuses on golf, and conferences and congresses.

This project by the Espírito Santo group, which is not a PIN, will, according to the promoters, create 225 new direct jobs and will be a key complement to the Tivoli Marinotel Vilamoura to consolidate its position as the best resort product for congresses in the Algarve.

With a total area of 36,000 square metres, this project will have 280 rooms, with a presidential suite, 12 executive suites and 14 junior suites.

The meeting and congress area covers an area of 900 square metres with a 600 square metre ballroom.

A garage for buggies with an access tunnel to the Victoria Golf Course and a special area for golfers to keep their equipment are other special features of this project.

The Minister Manuel Pinho was also going to visit three other new resorts.

The visit by Minister Manuel Pinho to the Algarve is part of the initiative "Economia Presente", which was launched during the final quarter of 2007 and whose objective is to familiarise him with projects and contact the local authorities.

Manuel Pinho's visit was to end on Saturday, the second day devoted to "Economia Presente", during which he was to be present at the presentation of the project of the Algarve International Race Track, an event that was also to be attended by the Secretary of State for Sport, Laurentino Dias.
