Algarve News: Vilamoura Meetings

Date: 17/12/2009

Recognised for its luxury hotels, award-winning golf courses and internationally renowned marina, Vilamoura is now set to become a quality ‘convention centre of excellence’ destination.

Four of the region’s most prominent five-star hotels – Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas Golf Resort & Spa, Blue&Green The Lake Spa Resort, Tivoli Marina Vilamoura and Tivoli Victoria – have joined forces to create Vilamoura Meetings, a project to promote Vilamoura as a quality business tourism destination.

Launched officially on October 2 at Tivoli Marina Hotel, the message of Vilamoura Meetings is clear: to put Vilamoura and the Algarve as a whole on the meetings and incentive industry map.

Alessandro Cabella, general manager of Hilton As Cascatas, Jacques Lecouls of The Lake, Jorge Beldade of Tivoli Marina Vilamoura and Mário Candeias of Tivoli Victoria are the faces of the project, and have combined their considerable resources to promote the luxury destination as a location that’s able to provide the highest quality facilities in both the business and leisure segments. Vilamoura Meetings aims to promote the region as a corporate venue of excellence rather than just a destination for sun, sea and golf.

For example, located right at the heart of Vilamoura is the Algarve Convention Centre, housed in the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura hotel. The facility offers 17 meeting rooms and a total seating capacity of 1300, all equipped with state-of-the-art IT resources. Covering a total area of 3400sqm – with expansion plans already underway – the convention centre is ideal for hosting meetings and conferences, as well as cinema sessions, concerts and even fashion shows.

But the premise of Vilamoura Meetings lies further than the ability to offer modern services and advanced technical know-how. Complementing these high-quality corporate facilities is the equally first-class accommodation available at the four hotels. Providing a total of 1300 rooms, suites and apartments, the four properties offer a luxurious and contemporary five-star ambience as befitting a corporate clientele, and each offer state-of-the-art business facilities in their own right.

"There are four hotels [working] together, each one with individual features, and different but entirely complementary services,? explained Hilton As Cascatas general manager Alessandro Cabella.

It is this joint effort that embodies Vilamoura Meetings, he continued, adding that it’s a venture designed not only to further promote Vilamoura to an untapped market, but also to fight seasonality that so often affects tourism in the Algarve.

"We want to introduce the product together at trade shows as Vilamoura Meetings, and not as four separate hotels,? he stressed, describing the project’s launch as the "advertising stage?.

And while Vilamoura has long been admired for its beautiful beaches and as a prominent golfing destination, Cabella highlighted the other "riches? the resort has to offer amongst which is the marina (also due for expansion and refurbishment), the equestrian facilities (Vilamoura has previously hosted the International Equestrian Gala and the annual Vilamoura Equestrian Tour), and the excellent transport infrastructure.

Of the key objectives, Cabella concluded: "If we could [host] or design two or three [annual] events of an international scale... we could then say that we have won the challenge.? Source: Essential Portugal
