Silves Câmara President Isabel Soares helped to officially inaugurate the first phase of the Oceânico Group’s Amendoeira Golf Resort near Alcantarilha, Silves on October 6.
Isabel Soares said she was very pleased that the resort had become a reality and hoped that it will be "an anchor in the council to attract more investment and employment".
"I know how hard this has been and the crisis has made it worse, but now the resort is inaugurated and I am sure it will have great success," she said.
The Civil Governor of the Algarve, Carlos Silva Gomes, also congratulated the Oceânico Group for its environmental awareness during the planning and construction of the resort.
Around 500 million euros was invested in the Amendoeira Golf Resort, which has a total area of 259 hectares.
The first phase has 242 T2 and T3 apartments and V3 and V4 luxury villas with gardens and swimming pools. The entire resort has been landscaped and includes streets with lighting and 24-hour security.
As well as properties, the resort also has two golf courses, designed by renowned golfers Nick Faldo and Christy O’Connor Jnr.
Other facilities at the resort include a beauty centre, gymnasium, sports area with football field and bowling green and much more.
Christopher Stilwell from the Oceânico Group said the resort has "a sophisticated watering system, which uses 50 per cent less water than it did when it was used for agriculture and 50 per cent of the water now used for the golf courses is from a local water treatment plant".
Following the inauguration, Gerry Fagan, co-director of the Ocêanico Group, told the Algarve Resident that he was delighted that the first phase of the Amendoeira Golf Resort was completed in record time.
"We haven’t really had any obstacles with this project, although it was a long process. It only took four years from start to finish, which is record time," he said. "We had two exceptional golf course designers and the area now has more wildlife and uses much less water."
Regarding the future of Oceânico, Gerry Fagan did not reveal any concrete projects but said the group was looking to continue to grow when the time was right.
"It’s a difficult time at the moment, funding is hard and the banking system is still tied up, but we have lots more plans for the future," he said.
"For now, we are very proud of this new development. It is maturing well and the public’s attitude to it has been very positive." Source: The Online Resident
