Algarve Tourism: Portimão at the European Seatrade Exhibition

Date: 9/9/2009

The Algarvean city of Portimão, which is home to one of Europe’s fastest ‘up and coming’ cruise ports, will be featured at the European Seatrade Exhibition, which will take place in Hamburg from 15th – 17th September, in Hamburg, Germany, and is the largest event of its kind this side of the Atlantic. This cements Portimão’s growing profile as an important destination on the international cruise circuit, and will feature alongside other Portuguese ports such as Lisbon, Leixões and the Azores.

Despite the current economic climate the cruise-tourism sector is still thriving within Europe, according to figures, at a remarkable rate, particularly in the British and German markets.

By participating in the Seatrade Europe Exhibition Portimão hopes to further promote its Cruise Port as well as enlist more companies and routes to include it as a destination on their cruises.

This year Portimão expects to welcome an estimated 30,000 tourists, on top of the 26,000 passengers that the weekly Madeira/Canary Islands – Portimão ferry will transport this year. Source: AlgarveMais
