Algarve News: Algarve Tourism gets a new image on the net

Date: 30/4/2008

Promoting tourist products, which will now be better organised and more appealing, is one of the main objectives of the visitalgarve site, which today tried out its new look for the first time.

Hosted at the same address – http://www.visitalgarve.pt/ –, the site will allow visitors to navigate through the menus more easily and it will offer other services in addition to those that already existed. One example is the space "Fale Connosco" (Talk to Us), a chat channel on which internet users can get information from 9 am to 5.30 pm on working days from the offices of the Algarve Tourism Board.

In a statement, António Pina, the president of the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA) said that they thought this function would be very useful as it would enable people to get information almost immediately.

With the aim of simplifying access to search and navigation functions, the new "visitalgarve" site has a direct link to accommodation and restaurant data bases, identified in the sections "Where to stay" and "Where to eat".

Suggestions about things to do in the region also appear on the home page, where visitors to the site can get a whole range of tips for activities, such as discovering the Algarve at the bottom of the sea or bird watching on the Costa Vicentina.

The multimedia gallery includes a bank of images for downloading, including all the locations that are most typical of the region. Also available for downloading are full editions of the new promotional publications about the region.

The menu "News on-line" will include publications such as the Guide to Trails and the Guide to Beaches in the Algarve.

The site will also have news about tourism in the Algarve, updated weekly, as well as interactive maps of the Algarve based on aerial photographs, all innovations on the site which will complement the services provided in the previous edition.

The weather station, the webcam showing the City of Faro in real time and the section "Don't Miss" will continue, but with a graphic design which is "more cheerful and more colourful", according to the RTA vice-president Nuno Aires.

He said that, with the overhaul, which is being done by the company Innovagency, the Algarve Tourism Board was confirming its faith in the Internet and the site would raise the profile of the destination with final consumers. Source: Observatório do Algarve
