Algarve Events: Medieval culture of Lagos

Date: 27/4/2008

Lagos historical centre will be decorated and serve as the stage for street entertainment and historical parades for the fifth Festival dos Descobrimentos.

Shops in the town were also due to be competing from yesterday (Thursday) to win a prize for the best dressed window displays themed for the festival.

This year’s festival is based on the theme of the Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama and his route to India and will include a parade on May 2 and 4 along the Avenida dos Descobrimentos and through the city’s historical centre towards the municipal auditorium.

The Feira Quinhentista, a fair to mark 500 years of the city’s history, will also take place at the municipal auditorium between May 2 and 4. This fair will include medieval entertainment, musical instruments, art and crafts, the sale of books, traditional sweets, wines, liqueurs and teas among others. On May 4, there will be an evening concert by the musical band Râo Kiâo at the auditorium.

This fair is open on May 2 between 2pm and 11pm.

On May 3 and 4, the fair will be open between 10am and 1pm and 3pm until 11pm. Tickets cost two euros for one day or five euros for all three days per person. Children under the age of 12 enter free of charge. Source: The Online Resident
